In the first reading, God speaks to us about a man named Apollos. He was a eloquent man and mighty in the scriptures but it seems that he had not yet received revelation about Water Baptism. (Acts 18:25) One day Acquila and Priscilla heard this man teach the Word of God. It is important to note that Paul stayed with Acquila and Priscilla when he was in Corinth. (Acts 18:2) Therefore it is safe to assume that this family was well taught in the ways of God by Paul. In the following scriptures we read about how this family took Apollos aside and taught him the ways of God more accurately. (Acts 18:26) Apollos received the teachings of Acquilla and Priscilla and continued his Ministry as a Mighty teacher of the ways of God.
The bible says: And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; (Ephesians 4:11-16)
I believe that a person cannot grow spiritually if he is not open to receiving teachings and instructions from other men and women of God. God has given the church apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors and teachers and each of them play an important role in the development of a Christian. Let us pray today that God will lead us to gifted men and women of God who will equip and edify us in Church to fulfill God's plan and purpose for our lives.
In the Gospel reading God encourages us again as He did yesterday to approach him boldly and pray in the Name of Jesus. Let this be a word of encouragement for all of us today. Jesus said: In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God. (John 16:26-27)
