In the Gospel reading today, Jesus said: Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. (Mark 12:17)
I believe that God has always wanted man to live like god but to never forget that he is not God. The life Joseph can be used an appropriate illustration to explain this.
The bible says: Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” (Genesis 41:39-41)
Pharaoh said to Joseph that only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you. Truly, only in regard to the throne is God greater than man. Selah.
The Psalmist beautifully said: When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than God,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor. (Psalm 8:3-5)
What belongs to God above all else, is absolute rulership and authority over our lives. God has give man glory, honor, power, wealth, strength and praise, and the best we can do as a response to the goodness and love that God bestows upon us in Christ Jesus is to take what He has given to us and offer it back to Him. We are to acknowledge that we are nothing without Him. David beautifully said: But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, And of Your own we have given You. (1 Chronicles 29:14)
Let us always acknowledge the goodness of God and praise Him by saying: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain- To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” (Revelation 5:12)
